‘One Night in Footscray’ is an exciting way to discover the art spaces, galleries, venues and inherent creativity of the Maribyrnong municipality within central Footscray. It is designed as a self-guided twilight journey, where visitors can view and engage in a variety of high-quality creative and artistic experiences, across different mediums and in unexpected locations – all on one night!

Get involved

After two successful events in 2017 and 2018, the ONIF Coordination Committee is calling for applications from artists who have a connection to Maribyrnong (live, work, recreate, study or volunteer) to participate in the event in 2019. Local artists and university students involved in the creative arts are encouraged to apply.

The event aims to:

  • Encourage journeys through central Footscray and its creative spaces,

  • highlight the work of local artists and makers,

  • support emerging practitioners and students, and create new opportunities to engage with art in public spaces,

  • promote and encourage audiences and artists to see, experience and interpret Footscray, its people and places.

When?

One Night in Footscray is happening on Friday 22 November 2019, from 5pm ‘til late, and applicants must confirm their availability to participate on the night, as well as commit to two pre-event sessions.

Applications close Monday 13 May 2019 at 5pm.

Apply for an Artist's Grant

We invite artists who have a connection to Maribyrnong (live, work, recreate, study or volunteer) to apply for an artist’s grant to exhibit or perform their work in galleries, shop fronts, venues and on the streets of central Footscray as part of this exciting program. This is an opportunity to be creative and experimental. Live music, roving entertainment and shopfront-window presentations – all forms of art are encouraged.

Applications for visual art displays will be required to identify a venue and/or method of display, as One Night in Footscray has limited gallery display options available for applicants.

One Night in Footscray has the budget to provide small grants for artists and performers to present their work, however we are unable to fund the development of works.

Successful artists will be chosen by a selection panel and notified in June. Please note, ONIF is unable to provide individual feedback on unsuccessful applications.

Check out last year’s program for inspiration!

Applications close Monday 13 May 2019 at 5pm.
