This is what happens when a feminist picks up a camera. Across the images you’ll discover a returned gaze and a mandate for women to be seen, not as an object but as an individual - strong, beautiful and complex.
The work arose out of a desire to subvert the status quo of daily female visual representation across print media and social media platforms. #IAMWOMAN began as an Artist residency at the Women of the World Festival, Melbourne, March 2017.
20 images were created across a three-day period. The festival itself critically addresses the continued global gender divide and seeks to find ways to support women and the change required, to assist women and girls to reach gender equality.
The images are an ongoing photographic portrait project exploring female representation and self-identity.
